Karachi(Cliff News )Department of Research, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) observed 8th Annual Research Day alongwith Research Poster Competition today at Dow International Medical College. The research day showcased the research of more than 1500 researchers in the form of posters, electronic display, and oral presentations at DUHS.Prof. Dr. Irshad Ali, Executive Director, Higher Education Commission (HEC) informed that Pakistan has made spectacular progress in higher education after the establishment of HEC. The increase of research papers to more than 12000 till last year shows the potential of our youth. During the last few years, Pakistan has progressed a lot in field of health and education. He stressed the need to provide opportunity and environment to the students in order to enhance their quality research work for solving the problem of the country.He appreciated the efforts of Founding Vice Chancellor Prof. Masood Hameed Khan in the developments of the University and also providing research environment to its students. He assured full support and personal commitment to Dow University in University’s feature endeavors. Later, he also shared research initiatives of Higher Education Commission.Prof. Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Karachi stressed the need to promote research culture in the country and added that the research has to be supported consistently for 25 years for the progress of the country. He also shared his past memories of working with Prof. Masood Hameed Khan who taught him the lesson of hard work and dedication.Prof. Masood Hameed Khan in his address said that the establishment of Higher Education Commision in Pakistan was a game changer for the country because it has changed health and education system of the country. It has also increased the research culture in our country. Pakistan is a strong nation therefore there is need to provide platform to the students and youngsters to enhance their research activities in order to solve problem of the country. Sharing the development and recent accomplishment of the University, he informed that DUHS has paid more stress on research activities in order to develop human resources development for the country.Dr. Kashif Shafique gave brief overview of the functions and activities of DUHS Research Department. He also informed the participant that Dow University has observed the highest number of publications in the year 2016 as compared to last 10 years. He also informed the audience that the DUHS publications since its inception have crossed the figure of 2000 when adding the most recent years. Top ranked posters in this competition which were assessed by a team of 12 judges, were given an opportunity to share their research findings through oral presentation and were also awarded with prizes.In the end, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan presented DUHS momento and boquey to Prof. Irshad Ali and Prof. M. Ajmal Khan.
