Key trends from this leaderboard include:Made for digital: Unlike in the offline world where space and time is limited,YouTube offers brands and agencies a creative canvas, allowing them as much or as little time as they need to tell their story in whatever form works best for their message. Long-form or short-form works equally well as long as they are engaging, and YouTube ads allow creativity to flow as the narrative requires.YouTube works alongside TV: most consumers watch TV and YouTube content at the same time.Instead of thinking of video spend as an either-or split, advertisers should shift toward a digital budget that complements TV strategy. YouTube is a part of many Pakistanis path to purchase now — to research, compare, and talk about products and services before making a purchase. For businesses to succeed, they need to be where consumers are in the moments that matter.Millennials spend time on YouTube: many of the ads are catered toward millennials, including those with strong female leads across the ads that populate the leaderboard. People experience YouTube socially, and users watch content together and share videos with other users.“These trending ads and branded content are a reminder of the amazing creativity alive today in the Pakistani advertising industry. These videos show that it’s not only new technology, but also the art of storytelling that creates a winning combination. YouTube offers brands a creative canvas to tell stories that resonate with consumers in whatever shape best fits them,” said Farhan Qureshi, Regional Head at Google Asia Pacific.

adabfest (photo release)

Karachi(Cliff News)“Adab Festival Pakistan (Adab Fest), opening at 315 pm on 1 February 2019, is a tapestry of literature and culture that will promote and nurture talent in writing, research, music, art, dance, theatre, etc. We want to make this a movement throughout Pakistan and get other people to organize their own festivals, and we will try to help them do so in whatever way we can” These thoughts were expressed by Ameena Saiyid OBE, SI, Chevalier des Ordres des Arts et des Lettres, Founder and Director Adab Festival Pakistan, at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club today. The Adab Fest will be held on 1, 2, 3 February 2019 at the Sindh Governor House Karachi, the historic location where Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah took his oath as Governor General on 14 August 1947, and where he lived and died. Entrance will be from the main gate on Aiwan e Sadar road. On most days entrance into the Governor House is not allowed except for Sundays when it is open to the public, but for Adab Fest the Governor House will be open to the public for from 2 pm to 9 pm on Friday, 1 February, and from 11 am to 9 pm on Saturday and Sunday, 2 and 3 February.Ameena said that they had rented the YMCA across the street to ensure plentiful parking for those coming in cars, and that Careem will be offering 15% discount off their fares to a maximum of Rs 80 per ride, to anyone using the promotional code AdabFest to come and go from Adab Fest.Ameena Saiyid said that in addition to building strong linkages with academia including LUMS, Habib University, and IOBM. Adab Fest’s programme also encourages youth reading, (a book culture), youth imagination, and achievements, through, for example, a session on P. G. Wodehouse, a film screening about young women mountain-climbers (the Unknown Mountaineers), a student-run session on Umera Ahmed, the launch of Shazaf Haider’s a Firefly in the Dark and Oborne’s cricket book, a session on media literacy, among others. The audience will experience literature in diverse Pakistani languages, book launches, talks, interviews, discussions, mushairah, a book fair, music, dance, theatre, comedy/satire, and film.  Over 140 Pakistani and international authors, artists, intellectuals, and media personalities will participate. An audience of around 100,000 is expected to celebrate not just ideas, debate and creativity but also community and public space. In his comments, Founder & Director of Adab Fest Asif Farrukhi emphasized the inclusive nature of the event and the broad scope, covering many languages, several forms of writing through celebrating the established writers and highlighting new publications to be launched during the programme. He said that “the voice of the writer, the poet, the intellectual is becoming increasingly marginalized and through such festivals this voice can be brought back to the mainstream. Important literary trends and social issues will come up for discussion offering a feast of intellectual delights”.On Getz Pharma’s partnership as the Lead Sponsor of AdabFest, CEO Getz Pharma Khalid Mehmood said “Literature and heritage is the soul of any nation. Ameena sahiba and Asif Sahab have done a great service to this nation by founding these literary festivals. As one of our main CSR areas, we encourage these events because they go a long way in building a more tolerant, well informed and educated country.” The ‘Adab Festival Pakistan Getz Pharma Fiction Prize’ long and short lists were also announced at the press conference. The long-list includes A. K. Asif (Hell ! No Saints in Paradise), Bina Shah (Before She Sleeps), Kamila Shamsie (Home Fire), Mohammed Hanif (Red Birds), Osama Siddique (Snuffing out the Moon), Sadia Abbas (The Empty Room), Sheheryar Sheikh (The Still Point for the Turning World), Sabyn Javeri (Nobody Killed Her), Zarrar Said (Pureland). The short-list includes Bina Shah, Kamila Shamsie, Mohammed Hanif, and Zarrar Said. The organizers have issued a statement that they are no longer using the name ‘Pakistan Literature Festival’ because Oxford University Press filed legal proceedings against them temporarily restraining them from using this name for such a festival. They are rigorously contesting such legal proceedings but since there is no legal restraint against holding literature festivals, they have decided to hold it in the name of the  Adab Festival Pakistan (Adab Fest).Inauguration keynote speakers are Dr Ishrat Husain, Arfa Zehra, and Dr Vali Nasr.  Closing keynote speakers are Ahmed Rashid, Haseena Moeen, and Peter Oborne. Islamabad(Cliff News)Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital communications company, has been awarded the prestigious GSMA Mobile for Development Utilities Innovation Fund, launched in June 2013 to test and scale the use of mobile to improve or increase access to energy, water and sanitation services. The grant was awarded to Jazz’s for their “Energy and Line Losses Reduction in Pakistan” idea in collaboration with Centre for Intelligent Systems & Network Research (CISNR) & Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), which uses an indigenous solution developed by their partner, CISNR, to address the biggest issue being faced by local power distribution sector; line losses and electricity theft. Jazz has been successful in securing the seed grant after an extensive evaluation and due diligence exercise carried out by GSMA among multiple organizations from various markets. Not only telecom operators but technology innovators and development organizations from Africa and Asian regions were part of the competition, as well.“Empowering customers digitally is no small feat and requires constant reinvention and innovation. This is another commitment to that philosophy to address ease for masses as they access important utility services,” said Ali Naseer, Chief Corporate and Enterprise Officer – Jazz. He continued, “We have partnered with GSMA for Energy and Line Loss Reduction Solution in order to improve the overall power distribution sector.”Jazz aims to ensure that the digitization of these utilities improved the quality of life for Pakistanis. The solution utilized the connectivity provided by Jazz to remotely monitor and manage distribution boxes, transformers and grid station feeders to ensure a more efficient and precise process that identifies points of failures, faulty lines and theft locations. The seed fund is to be used to source and install the devices in selected subdivisions of PESCO. CISNR will be responsible for the device units (Transfocure and Electrocure), whereas infrastructure hosting and connectivity would be provided by Jazz. In addition to this, it will also address challenges such as load management at the transformer level and consumption wise distribution in order to optimize the distribution network.Successful execution and scale through this grant will surely prove to be a strong case for all other distribution companies, which are still not able to come up with a standardized solution to address the on grid-power distribution issues in Pakistan.

Farhan debut album echoes out Feb 22,2019

farhan akhtar (6)

Karachi(Cliff News)Acclaimed international actor, singer-songwriter and film director Farhan has released ‘Why Couldn’t It Be Me’, the latest track from his highly-anticipated debut album Echoes, which is out February 22nd.Echoes features a culmination of Farhan’s lifetime experiences, beautifully combining emotion with empathy and soul. ‘Why Couldn’t It Be Me’ is a powerful and emotive journey into the pain of grief and guilt and is available to download today on all streaming platforms.Whilst the album is an eclectic musical mix and lyrically focused on love and relationships, the largely acoustic ‘Why Couldn’t It Be Me’ brings an extra dimension to Farhan’s work and has been released during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence – an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls.A key track on the album, it’s also the only song that “isn’t looking inward but it’s about an external event” and is a song written to heighten awareness of the need to tackle violence. That event – a massacre in Peshawar in Pakistan, when the Taliban stormed into an army school and shot over 200 children – was a truly profound moment for Farhan. After it happened, Farhan read an article about “a mother whose younger son hadn’t gone to school that day because he’d pretended to be sick. But his older sibling had gone and had been killed in the massacre. When I read that story I thought it must be such a strange dilemma for a young boy – ‘that could have been me in place of my brother.’ So just that thought got me writing, and I wrote ‘Why Couldn’t It Be Me’ from the perspective of that younger brother.”From mothers and fathers to children and siblings of victims, the pain is felt throughout a family and community. ‘Why Couldn’t It Be Me’ is Farhan’s latest endeavour to tackle the maltreatment of women in line with his ongoing commitment to use his worldwide profile to spread awareness of gender inequalities and the need to end violence in order to empower women and girls in every corner of the world.A hugely successful and influential figure in India, Farhan is an actor, screenwriter, director and producer with countless movies to his name. He has also flexed his musical muscles before – not least playing the part of the front man of a rock band in the critically acclaimed film Rock On!! (2008) – but he’s been keen to record his own album for a long time. Yet for years his other interests – and life – got in the way.“Over the last two years I felt a little bit of a burn-out setting in, just from working on films non-stop,” says Farhan. “I just felt I needed some time out for myself, to reconnect with other things, to look at where my life’s at – I wanted to channel what I was feeling, and put it out there, just to share with people. And I found that process very cathartic.”Echoes is the result; a debut album that is deep and powerful, poignant and inspiring. It is also, a set of classic-sounding, self-written songs that reflect a childhood steeped in the greats of both Indian music, such as Kishore Kumar and Ravi Shankar, and of western rock and pop: The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, David Bowie.Recorded in Milan, the rich, melodic album was produced by Grammy-winning producer Tommaso Colliva (Franz Ferdinand, Jesus and Mary Chain, Muse). It opens with the previous single ‘Rearview Mirror’, which channels the timelessness of early Bowie and the ambition of Sgt. Peppers… amid soft rock orchestration and delicate melodies tinged with subtle psychedelia.Further highlights include, ‘Seagull’ which finds Farhan touching on a transcendent blend of minimal instrumentation and emotive lyricism, and ‘If Love Is Not Enough’, which questions what is needed to keep a relationship together, before the more upbeat tones of ‘Bird On The Wire’ provide an anthemic crescendo of passionate expression.Explaining the album’s title, he notes that, “Echoes. It’s about chapters in my life and voices in my head that have influenced the writing. All of us have our personal journeys through life, through love. We struggle at times to make sense of our emotions and of the world around us. So here I am, speaking as honestly as I can about my journey.”That desire for connecting, for reaching out, also informs another of Farhan’s interests, which includes him being the South Asia goodwill ambassador for UN WOMEN – The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. He recently launched the campaigning organization in India, MARD – Men Against Rape & Discrimination, which seeks to change male attitudes and bring positive change to the role and respect of women in the sub-continent.With his inbuilt artistry and his CV – not to mention his genes – Farhan has already proven he’s adept at speaking to millions, and at using his voice for change. And now, with his tuneful, universal debut album, this gifted musician is ready to speak to people in a whole new winning way.
