British Council announced Pakistan Fellowship Programme

Karachi (Cliff News)British Council in Pakistan and School of Leadership are set to launch the DICE (Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies)Pakistan Fellowship Programme.The launch ceremony took place at Karachi.DICE is a multi-year project and shall be rolled out in five priority countries,Pakistan,South Africa,Egypt,Indonesia,
Brazil and UK.According to UNESCO Report,in 2013 the creative economy employed nearly 30 million people worldwide and generated $2.25 trillion in revenue.This is substantially more than global telecommunications ($1.57 trillion)and greater than the GDP of India,Russia or Canada.600 creative and social enterprise leaders from 12 cities across the country will benefit from 6th month fellowship.The aim is to provide these individuals with unique experiences that are not typically avaliable to enterprises at their level.Talha Chianti from the British Council in Pakistan,speaking at the launch event said,”Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies” is an ambitious program that supports the development of creative and social enterprises.The DICE fellowship shall be a 6 month long program with 14 cohorts per year.It will be designed to help creative social entrepreneurs sustain their bussiness and multiply their impact.

International Soccer Futsal;Brazil beats Pakistan by 6-4

Karachi (Cliff News)In a thrilling and entertaining encounter of the very first international soccer futsal exhibition match played at KPT Football Ground, Benazir Sports Complex, Pakistanfaced the hot favourite Brazil with a brave heart. Brazil won the match by 6-4 goals under the fun frilled environment. The match kicked off at a very fast and Brazilscored twice in the initial minutes of the first half of the game. Duran remained the top scorer of the tournament and he scored three goals during the match. Brazilscored the first goal in the 7th Minute of the game and the tally was opened by Brazilian Captain Duran. A couple of minutes later Brazil scored another goal and this time it was Wellington to score from Brazilian side in the 9th minute.Pakistan bounced back and retaliated with a superb goal from Saram Balou in the 15thminute. Later the scoreboard was levelled by Habib in the 18th minute.The second half started in a defensive mode from Pakistani players but it was Emerson who opened the tally for the Brazilians in the second half and he scored a goal in the 24th minute. Followed by him, Duran came forward to score twice in 25thand 32nd minute to score the fourth and fifth goal for his team. Forgotten National Sports Heroes Honored,Financially Assisted

Karachi (Cliff News)Pakistan’s forgotten national sports heroes in boxing, cycling and football who brought honor and glory to the country in Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and other international competitions were honored by Sherwanis Sports Trust on Thursday.Those who were honored included Olympic boxer and Asian and CW Games medal winner Meherullah Lassi, South Asian Boxing Games Champion Rasheed Qambrani.Financial assistance to distressed boxers Azeem Jan,  cyclist Sher Haider, footballers Jan Muhammad Baloch, Muhammad Sharif and Jafar Alam and former Olympic referee/judge Ali Akbar Shah were extended financial assistance and they were honored with shields and mementos at a function held at Toyota Highway Motors premises.Cash awards in tune of Rs.200, 000 were distributed among the needy sportsmen.2002 Busan Asian Games gold medalist Meherullah Lassi speaking on the occasion, complimented and lauded Sherwani Trust for coming forward and supporting and assisting those neglected sportsmen mostly from Lyari area.“They are past but national heroes and deserve respect and support from the nation,” he said.He expressed the hope that more will follow this gesture and assist these poor, needy and jobless sportsmen.“The basic purpose of holding this programme was to support and assist those needy sportsmen, who were neglected despite their achievements for Pakistan,” Chairman of the trust, Shujaat Sherwani said.“We are honored with their presence of galaxy of international sportsmen with us,” he said.
