Pakistan aviation industry has huge potential:Tuncay Eminoglu

Istanbul(Zahid Hussain Karani)Tuncay Eminoglu Vice President Sales (Asia and Far East) has said he takes competition as a challenge and not a threat. He said he has already visited the new airport of Islamabad and found it in commensurate with the present day aviation needs. He further said Pakistan aviation industry is vibrant and has huge potential adding Pakistani visitors especially traveling to Saudi Arabia and transiting thru Istanbul are provided with best facilities with a view to making their transit comfortable

Tuncay Eminoglu expressed these views while talking to a delegation of media from Pakistan who met him in his office in Istanbul and during an interview with Diplomatic News Agency (DNA) and CENTRELINE journal. He said passengers traveling to USA can stay one night at Istanbul free of charge. Likewise passengers having 12 hours transit time are also provided with free of charge accommodation. To question about introducing new aircraft on Islamabad-Istanbul route, the vice president said the decision to replace aircraft, by and large depends, on the business activity on the particular route and aircraft availability as well.Tuncay Eminoglu while giving a brief history of the carrier, said when Turkish Airlines started its journey back in 1933 it had only five aircraft flying to four destinations in one country. Eighty-six years down the line, the airline has now more international destinations than any other in the world, covering 314 destinations, 311 cities in 124 countries.“In 2023, the year that marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic, our target is to reach 120 million passengers, earn $30 billion in revenue and add more than 500 fleets.” In the past 10 years or so, Turkish Airlines has increased its service quality, he said. Some 10 million passengers were carried in 2003, and this figure rose to 48 million in 2013.Turkish Airlines, which recently moved its airport from Ataturk to Istanbul, will begin flying cargo planes to Addis Ababa. Turkish Ailines flies to 56 African destinations which is the second highest next to Ethiopian and their desire to increase their market in Africa even further. He said Africa remains the priority for Turkish Airlines, as the air carrier expands to all four corners of the world. They said that aviation would continue growing in the future and Turkish would grow more than the global trend. As of April 6 the airlines began using the newly built ultra modern Istanbul Airport replacing their older hub at Ataturk Airport. Once completed in 2027, the Istanbul airport is expected to be the busiest airport in the world with six runways and four terminals that can accommodate 200 million passengers a year.Tuncay Eminoglu further said they have gone from 162 planes and 3 million passengers in 2003 to 515 aircraft and 30 million passengers in 2019. In the decade between 2008 and 2019 they experienced a passenger growth rate of 12.8 percent, three times the world’s average.By 2023 Turkish hopes to serve 140 million passengers. Currently, according to 2017 International Air Transport Association (IATA) statistics the Airline serves the 17th highest number of flyers in the world but according to Eminoglu, by 2032 they expect to be in the top ten. The IATA forecasted in 2018, that China, the US, India and Indonesia would be the fastest growing countries in terms of passengers.Turkey is rapidly transporting more passengers and cargo so the new airport will be able to serve the highest number of passengers in the world, park 500 planes, feature 500 check-in points and accommodate 143 boarding bridges. The 700,000sqm airport will also have the largest maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) in the world. At the new airport the aviation firm manages three run ways and they expect to serve 90 million passengers this year and carry 2.5 million tons of cargo. The project has three phases and each phase will increase cargo capacity by 5.5 million tons. By the end of the project the number of passengers would double to 200 million. He said by 2025, the aviation sector will contribute 4.9 percent to the GDP and 225,000 jobs. When the airport is finished it will have six runways and four terminals.

Turkish CG encouraging joint ventures to improve trade volume

Karachi(Cliff News)Consul General of Turkey Tolga Ucak has said that although Turkey and Pakistan have been enjoying excellent relations but the trade volume remains limited at around US$700 million so ‘we have to do more’ by increasing interaction and encouraging Joint Ventures between the business communities of the two brotherly countries.Any initiative by Karachi Chamber to enhance its linkages with Istanbul Chamber of Commerce would certainly be fully facilitated and supported by the Turkish Consulate in Karachi as it would certainly prove beneficial for the business communities of the two countries, he added while exchanging views at a meeting during his visit to Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI).President KCCI Junaid Esmail Makda, Senior Vice President Khurram Shahzad, Vice President Asif Sheikh Javaid, Chairman KCCI’s Sub-Committee for Diplomatic Mission Embassies Liaison Shamoon Zaki and Managing Committee Members attended the meeting.Terming Karachi as a ‘vibrant and active city’ where a lot of production was taking place and numerous services were being offered, Turkish CG advised the business community of Karachi to have more interaction with their counterparts in Turkey with a view to improve the existing trade volume, besides taking steps to promote tourism opportunities in both countries. The Envoy suggested that the Karachi Chamber should send a business delegation to Turkey to further explore trade and investment opportunities. He said that Business-to-Business and People-to-People contacts have to be promoted between the two countries whereas exchange of students must also be encouraged. “Turkish students, who usually go to western countries to learn English, can visit Pakistan study good English at some of the finest Colleges and Universities in the country”, he added. To promote tourism opportunities in Pakistan, he advised Pakistani travel agents and tour operators to open their offices in Turkey so that Turkish tourists could be acquainted about huge tourism opportunities across Pakistan.Tolga Ucak informed that new office for Turkish Consulate in Karachi was being established on an area of 8,000 sq. yards near Chinese Consulate where more facilities will be provided along with induction of additional staff to facilitate the visitors and visa applicants.Earlier, President KCCI Junaid Esmail Makda, in his welcome remarks, briefed the Turkish CG about KCCI which is the premier and largest trade body of the country with a strong membership base of more than 55,000 direct and indirect members while around 500,000 plus taxpayers also fall under KCCI’s ambit through its member firms. He said that the Karachi Chamber, which remains actively engaged in raising voice for resolving the issues being faced by the business and industrial community, alsoacts as a bridge between, Foreign Missions, government, law enforcement agencies, SMEs, small traders & industrialists of Karachi.Referring to President Dr. Arif Alvi’s recent visit to Turkey, President KCCI said that Pakistan and Turkey have been enjoying excellent ties at the government-to-government level but unfortunately the same was not depicting at the lower level as the bonds between the business communities of the two countries were not satisfactory which requires collective efforts from both sides. He said that despite having good brotherly relations, it was a matter of concern that no Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), Free Trade Agreement (FTA) or any other agreement exist between Pakistan and Turkey. “It was really necessary to have such an agreement, particularly the FTA which has already been negotiated from time to time and it was heartening to note that President Arif Alvi during his visit to the launching ceremony of 16th My Karachi Exhibition, also hinted that Pakistan-Turkey FTA will be inked soon which the business community would warmly welcome as it would surely give a big boost to the existing trade ties between the two brotherly countries”, he added.Expressing concerns over limited trade volume between the two countries, Junaid Makda stressed the need for making collective efforts and exploring new avenues for trade enhancement. “To improve trade and investment ties, the Karachi Chamber is keen to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Istanbul Chamber which would help in bringing the business communities and create a win-win situation for both”, he added. He said that Karachi, being the economic and financial hub of Pakistan, offers profitable opportunities and added facilities for investment and joint ventures to investors from Turkey. “Karachi is an attractive place for Turkish investors, who can surely earn maximum profits by setting up their businesses or undertaking joint ventures here”, he added.

As every autumn Hindu community celebrates divali all over the world, this year 7th of November they are going to enjoy this family-oriented festival. This festival is observed with happiness and joy, lots of fireworks and firecrackers going off. Divali is the five-day celebration where third day is considered as main divali on which celebrations are at their peak. Two days before the main divali are assumed as the preparation of third day. On first day Hindus all over the world clean their homes, offices and shops, purchase jewellery, firecrackers and other items, decorate homes and streets and lighten the lamps for all five days. On the second day people purchase and prepare foods especially sweets for the main divali day. After divali, fourth day is for husband and wife and fifth day for sisters and brothers.

The height of the festival is the third day which is 7th Nov. this year. Holiday on this occasion is announced by many governments in the world. Hindu community in Pakistan also enjoy holiday. Unlike all festival days Hindus don’t fast on divali rather they share sweets with friends and family. Everyone wears new clothes and perform Lakshmi puja then celebrate fireworks and share sweets.

This festival has some political and economic benefits for Hindu community. Major shopping occurs during divaliperiod. Cultural exchange during divaligives political benefits to India. But air pollution is the major problem created by variety of fireworks. Fireworks play key role in increasing number of burn injuries during divali.

Divali is known as the festival of lights, illumination and happiness. But most of us don’t know the story behind this occasion. Divali is the day when King Rama returns with his wife Sita and younger brother Lakshmana at Ayodhyaafter fourteen years in exile. Rama is portrayed as the seventh avatar of god Vishnu and his wife is portrayed as the avatar of goddess Lakshmi. Ayodhya is the birthplace of Rama. Rama was forcefully sent to exile by his father Dasharatha and step mother and Dasharatha’s favorite queen kaikeyi. Lakshmana decided to go with Rama into exile. Kaikeyi wanted to make their sonBaharatha the crown Prince of Ayodhya. Rama’s army defeated Ravana who kidnapped his wife Sita. After this victory rama, Sita and Lakshmana returned to Ayodhya to establish their ideal state. This occasion in the history revealed as divali. Another belief is that such festival had celebrated even before rama and rama had chosen this day for his return to ayodhya because the lights and illumination helped them to come back their destination easily.
