Their latest award launched in collaboration with Karachi Biennale Trust this year, aims to recognize young artists who have shown exceptional talent and potential.  This year’s winner, Arsalan Nasir, was presented with a unique medallion at the inaugural ceremony of Karachi Biennale 2019 for his work.The Karachi Biennale is held every two years to provide a platform for emerging artists to show case their work. This year, the event showcased multiple artists from all over Pakistan as well as several other countries. The theme for this year was the devastating ‘development footprint’ on ecology.While speaking to the media, Arsalan talked about the dangers of rapid urbanization in our part of the world, particularly with regards to the environment. Through his art, he wanted to depict the first and foremost repercussion of rapid urbanization – the birds of our city. These birds are in danger every day due to the rapid increase in the prevalence of tall buildings, communication towers and wires around the city. Speaking about the award, Dr Zeelaf Munir, Managing Director & CEO EBM, said “Art is the best medium to help raise social awareness and EBM wants to use that to help drive focus towards the most pressing issue of our time. Kamran Public School crowned as champions in PVCA-EBM Inter-School Cricket Tournament  


Karachi(Cliff News)Kamran Public School emerged champions in the 9th PVCA-EBM Inter-School Cricket Tournament 2018 as they overpowered Al Fatima Academy by 33 runs in a low-scoring final here at the National Stadium on Sunday.Batting first, after winning the toss, Kamran Public School was bowled out for 156 in 37.2 overs. Al Fatima Academy, chasing a target of 157 in 40 overs, found themselves bundled out for 123 in 35.1 overs. Kamran Public School’s Muhammad Ovais was adjudged Man of the Match for his fine all-round performance.The tournament was organized by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) and sponsored by English Biscuit Manufacturers (Pvt.) Ltd. As expected, the final was turned out to a fiercely fought contest between two evenly matched sides. Al Fatima Academy had to pay the price of sending down as many as 28 wides which proved the decisive factor in the end.Kamran Public School struggled with the bat after losing the prized scalp of skipper Syed Muhammad Hasan Jafri who could made only 10 off 23 balls. From 41 for one they slumped to 81 for seven as Adeel Meo mesmerized their batsmen in his eight-over spell, finishing with the impressive figures of five for 28. Muhammad Ovais, who came into bat at number nine, brought his team back in the game with his solid knock of 35, coming from 67 deliveries which lifted the total to 156 as the last two wickets added 50 crucial runs. The target of 157 looked within the reach of Al Fatima Academy but they also lost their way after the loss of their captain Abdullah Zareen, who had struck five fours in his breezy 20 off only 12 balls. Kamran Public School’s spinners sustained the pressure by picking up wickets at regular intervals with Muhammad Saim (2-6), Rashid Ghani (2-18), Uzair Akbar (2-21) and Muhammad Ovais (2-26) rising to the occasion. Al Fatima Academy fell 34 runs short of their target which was exactly the same number which they had conceded as extras.
At the conclusion of the match Prize Distribution Cermony was held which was attended among others by Fawad Ijaz Khan Chairman PVCA, Nadeem Omar President KCCA, Shahzain Munir Director EBM, Alamgir Ahmed and Amjad Islam. Syed Ali Haider Zaidi Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs was the Chief Guest.Mr. Fawad Ijaz Khan announced that top 20 performers of this Inter School Tournament would be given coaching by KCCA for one year and Mr. Nadeem Omar also announced that he will select some players out of these 20 School Boys for his Quetta Gladiators Team. Mr. Shahzain Munir promised to support in future such Inter School Tournaments. Mr. Ali Haider Zaidi appreciated the efforts of PVCA for promoting cricket at grass root level.Syed Muhammad Hassan Jafri of Kamran Public School received the Winners Trophy and cheque for Rs. 50,000, Abdullah Zareen of Al Fatima Academy received the Runners up Trophy and cheque for Rs. 25,000. Muhammad Owais was declared Man of the Final Match, Ahsan Hussain Best Batsman, Sher Hameed Best Bowler, Naveed Ahmed Best Fielder and Saad Baig Best Wicket Keeper.

Al Fatima School Qualify for Semi Finals of 9th PVCA EBM Inter School Cricket Tournament

Karachi(Cliff News)A fine knock of 71 runs by Abdullah Zarin of Al Fatima School steered his school to the Semi Final berth of 9th PVCA/EBM Inter School Cricket Tournament-2018 winning by 9 wickets against New Standard Secondary School. This tournament is organized by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) and sponsored by EBM Makers of Peek Freans. Kamran Public and Ibrahim Ali Bahi have earlier already qualified for the Sami Finals.In the third Quarter Final Match played at Naya Nazimabad Cricket Ground Al Fatima School won the toss and put New Standard Secondary School to bat first. Batting first New Standard Secondary School scored 123 runs in 39.2 overs. Haider Zaman scored 44 runs and K.M. Hafeez 26 runs. From Al Fatima School Ahad Ali 2/14, Asad Shehzad 2/15, Shair Bahadur 2/33 and Adeel Ahmed 2/24 were amongst the wickets.The required target was achieved by Al Fatima School in only 15.2 overs for loss of only one wicket. Mohammad Abbas scored 37 runs, Abdullah Zarin score of 71 runs. Abdullah Zarin of Al Fatima School was declared Man of the Match.The last Quarter Final match will be played on 26th November between F.F Public School & Fahad Academy School at Rashid Latif Cricket Academy.

Lahore(Cliff News)Pakistan’s leading biscuit manufacturer, EBM, makers of Peek Freans- sponsored the third iteration of the EBM-Peek Freans Pakistan Open Tennis Championship this year. Organized by the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA), the championship was run from the 21st – 27th October, 2018. This first-of-its kind open tennis championship, included matches for all ages. The winner of Under-10 and Under-12 tournament was Hamza Roman. Boys U14 trophy was given to Sami Zeb for singles and doubles to Sami Zeb and Hamid Israr.While M. Shoaib received the trophy in the Under 18 category. Muhammad Abid won the trophy for Men’s Singles ; whereas the winners for Men’s doubles were Aqeel Khan and Shahzad Khan. Ushna Sohail bagged the trophy for Women’s Singles and the trophy for Senior’s doubles 40 plus was presented to Maj Adnan and Talha Waheed. Senior Men Doubles 45 Plus winners were Rashid Malik and Fayyaz Khan.Seniors 60 Plus trophies were presented to Zahid Zafar and Dr Naveed.Speaking at championship, Shahzain Munir, Director EBM said, “EBM – As the makers of Peek Freans we are happy to be a part of an event of such importance, and are proud to be consistent supporters of sports since the dawn of this company.
