GE,CPGHC HUBCO achieve key milestones to power Pakistan

Karachi(Cliff News)GE delivered the first steam turbine for the 1,320 MW CPHGC power plant and helped synchronize it to the grid three months ahead of schedule, just 27 months after the project received notice to proceed.Under an agreement signed in 2016, GE is supplying the core power generation equipment for the project, which comprises two units each of supercritical boilers, steam turbine and generator sets. The project’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors are Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd. (NWEPDI) and Tianjin Electric Power Construction Company (TEPC).“CPHGC is the first overseas thermal power project developed by State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) under the Belt & Road Initiative. The 2X660MW coal-fired power project is a priority project under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor,” said Mr. Zhao Yonggang, CEO, CPHGC. “We look forward to continuing our meaningful partnership with GE that promises to be beneficial for the power sector of Pakistan.”The CPHGC Power Plant, under a joint venture of China Power International Holding Limited (CPIH) with Pakistan’s Hub Power Company (HUBCO), is expected to be in full commercial operation by the mid of 2019 and is one of the infrastructure ventures supported under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, a large development mega project that aims to connect Gwadar Port in southern Pakistan to Xinjiang, China’s northwestern autonomous region, through transportation and energy networks. The project will help Pakistan diversify its energy mix and reduce dependence on expensive imported fuels, allowing a significant reduction of the cost of electricity generation in Pakistan.

Enhancing performance at the Hub Power Plant

The 1,292 MW Hub Power Plant is Pakistan’s first and largest independent power plant and has been the country’s most efficient steam power facility since 1997. HUBCO has launched a project to enhance the efficiency and life-cycle of the facility through retrofit works that replace the old existing turbine rotor and inner cylinder assemblies with advanced GE steam turbine technology within the old existing turbine casing.“Pakistan’s energy demands will continue to grow,and this warranted targeted retrofits of the steam turbine units to increase their output and long-term reliability while also extending their maintenance intervals. I am proud to share that we have completed retrofit works on a steam turbine at the Hub Power Plant, significantly enhancing the unit’s operational performance,” said Khalid Mansoor, CEO of Hubco. “These achievements mark significant progress towards delivering on Hubco and GE’s joint, long-term commitment to strengthen Pakistan’s power sector.”The retrofit of the first steam turbine is now complete, translating into an efficiency increase of more than 1.3 percent, over 3.5 percent fuel savings per kilowatt hour, greater mechanical reliability and lower emissions per megawatt hour of electricity generated. successfully delivered a turnkey solution to DG Khan Cement Company Limited (DGKCCL), for its new cement plant, one of the largest in the country to date.Located 30 kilometers northwest of Karachi, in Hub District Lasbella, Baluchistan, the new manufacturing facility is powered by GE’s advanced grid solutions including 132/6.3 kV gas
insulated switchgear (GIS), 40MVA power transformers and other related auxiliary equipment.The power solution also includes an extension at K-Electric’s Hub Chowki grid station with a 132 kV AIS bay connecting it to the DGKCCL grid station.GE also undertook the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the 132/6.3 kV grid

Baghdad,Iraq(Cliff News)GE (NYSE: GE) signed Principles of Cooperation (POC) with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity to develop the country’spower sector. The plan is expected to generate up to 14 gigawatts (GW) of power, create up to 65,000 direct and indirect jobs, support the government to realize savings and recoverable losses of up to $3 billion per year, establish a local technology center and support water and healthcare access.The POC was signed by Minister QasimAl Fahdawi, Iraq’s Minister of Electricity, and Joseph Anis, President & CEO of GE’s Power Services in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East. The comprehensive plan builds on GE’s legacy of continuous presence and commitment to bring progress to the people of Iraq over the past 50 years, and is comprised of the following key tenets:Supporting the path to energy securitywith 14 GW. As an immediate priority, GE will deploy proven fast power technologies and undertake upgrades atexisting power plant sites to bring approximately 1.5 GW of additional power online by 2019 – the equivalent electricity needed to supply up to 1.5million Iraqi homes, as well as undertake maintenance and rehabilitation servicesto secure the availability of another 7 GWthat are currently operating. In addition, the agreement includes upgrades and services for existing power plants; the conversion of simple cycle power plants to combined cycle, which can help bring new power online without consuming additional fuel or releasing further emissions; as well as the establishment of new power plants with efficient, reliable power generation technology.Furthermore, GE will develop substations and overhead lines across the country, and a centralized energy management system covering generation, transmission and distribution. These initiatives will add up to 14 GW of power and strengthen grid connectivity.Realizing $3 billion in savings and recoverable losses annually. Overall, GE’s activities will help the Government realize savings and recover losses of up to $3 billion per year. Repairs, maintenance, upgrades and other services will help to reduce the operating costs of existing power plants. To further improve the transmission and distribution of power, GE will undertake comprehensive decongestion network studies, as well as advisory services to reduce collection recoverable losses. In addition, GE is offering its unique solution for integrating the capture of flared gas and power generation using GE’s advanced Gas to Power technologies. In July, Baker Hughes, a GE company signed a contract with the Iraqi Ministry of Oil for a modular natural gas plant solution for flared gas recovery in the Nassiriya and Al Gharrafoilfields.GE will assist the Government of Iraq to unlock financing for these projects through its extensive relationships with Global Export Credit Agencies and financial institutions.As part of the proposals included in the POC, as well as GE’s commitment to a shared future and the progress of the Iraqi people, the company also expects to:Build local capabilities. GE plans to establish a local Technology Center comprising of a Repairs Center, a Monitoring & Diagnostics Center and a Training Center.Contribute towards providing critical services to local communities. GE intends to supply three trailer-mounted mobile water treatment units to help deliver drinking water to contribute to the everyday needs of the people of Basra. The company also plans to provideneonatal intensive care equipment and advanced medical care training for nursing staff at a neonatal intensive care center to meet the need for specialized healthcare services.Mussab Almudaris, official spokesperson of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, said,“Our focus is on rebuilding Iraq to provide stable, sustainable development for our people, and developing the electricity sector is a critical component of these efforts. GE Energy expands wind power capacity in Pakistan

Karachi(Cliff News)GE Renewable Energy [GE: NYSE] and Hawa Energy (Pvt.) Ltd today inaugurated the 50 MW wind farm, Hawa Power Project, in the Gharo-Keti Bandar Wind Corridor in Jhimpir, Sindh – a highly anticipated launch that seeks to further drive the growth of renewable energy in Pakistan. The project is installed with 29, 1.7-103 wind turbines, with implementation of the project undertaken by Power China, as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.  The 50 MW project is the fourth in Pakistan to feature GE’s advanced wind turbines. In addition to the provision of wind turbines, GE will also provide 10 years of operations and maintenance services as part of the contract, making it a one-stop shop for Hawa Power Project. Engro Elengy Terminal Private Limited signs LNG supply agreement with SSGC

Karachi(CliffNews)Engro Elengy Terminal Private Limited (EETPL) signed an LNG Supply Agreement (LSA) with Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) for the provision of additional 200 mmsfcd gas. The agreement was signed by Jehangir Piracha – CEO EETPL and Amin Rajput – acting MD SSGC in presence of Minister of State for Petroleum – Jam Kamal Khan amongst other dignitaries at the Petroleum Division – Ministry of Energy.   Jehangir Piracha, CEO of EETPL said: “Importing natural gas is a more economically viable source of energy since it is not only cheaper but also more efficient fuel for power generation. Today’s signing is a testament to our resolve to meet the rising demand for gas in the country and fuel economic growth and help alleviate the energy crisis.” The Engro Elengy Terminal Private Limited won the bid in 2014 for the construction, commissioning, and operation of the First LNG terminal of Pakistan. Built in a world record time of 332 days, the terminal has a peak capacity for regasification of up to 690 mmcfd of LNG. Since Jan 2017, the terminal has increased its output to 600 MMSCFD from 400 MMSCFD to meet the rising demand for gas across the country. With the recent amendment in the LNG supply Agreement between SSGC & EETPL, the tolling rate for the additional 200MMSCFD will be 0.1745 USD/MMBTU, which is lowest in the region & this will bring down the overall rate of 600 MMSCFD rates to 0.4799 USD/MMBTU. Operating at one of the highest utilization rates in the world, the Engro Elengy Terminal Private Limited continues to provide savings of between USD 1.2 billion to USD 1.5 billion to the national exchequer through import substitution of expensive furnace oil. Moreover, the assurance of LNG import has kicked off a fast-growing LNG ecosystem and transitive economic activity as well with over 750 CNG stations operating across Pakistan while uninterrupted gas provisioning has also contributed significantly to the revival of the fertilizer and the textile industries resulting in substantial increase in national production.

If you are a developer who has made a Unity-based game that has reached more than 10,000 installs, you’re eligible to enter the challenge.The contest will run from August 18 to November 21, with a total amount of US$185,000 in prizes up for grabs.
